How to get Cash Back on GAS using only an app (Upside)

It’s no secret that everyone and their mama are cringing every time they go to the pump. As of 5/20/22, the average national price of gasoline is $4.56 a gallon.

Yikes.

I can save money on everything from toilet paper to makeup, but if you would’ve asked me if you could truly save on gas a few months ago, I would have laughed.

When I jokingly posted a TikTok about having a coupon for gas, many others actually informed me there is an app that basically acts as a rebate for gas – it’s called UpSide (previously “Get UpSide”).

I was skeptical about using the app and how much you could actually save. So I’m going to walk you through the app and exactly what I think about it.

UpSide will show you (based on your location) all of the gas stations around you where you can earn cash back.

For starters, when you download the app – DON’T sign up with an Apple ID – I made that mistake, and ended up having to go through customer service & creating a new account to get that fixed. Just putting that out there.

To use this app effectively, here are some pointers:

  • DON’T sign up with Apple ID – Sign up with email
  • Use the app to find gas stations around you, and choose which one suits your fancy
  • Claim your cash back offer within the app
  • Get gas just like you normally would (you HAVE to use a debit/credit card!)
  • When you’re done, you enter the first six and last four digits of your debit/credit card
  • Your transaction will process 1-2 days, and then you’ll get your cash back within the app!

What I like the most about this app is the fact that (as far as I know) there is NO MINIMUM required to cash out (I.e., like the ibotta app!)

I will also add that to get the most of this app – it is important to SHARE YOUR LINK WITH YOUR FRIENDS! Not only will they get an extra 15¢/gal bonus, you will get 1¢ for every future purchase they make!

To really get the most of this app, sharing and inviting as many people as possible helps get you the deeper discount in your next purchase.

If you’re like me, you know that every penny counts – and in my opinion, using this app is worth it! Getting cash back on something so essential is not easy to find – and definitely better than buying gas with nothing in return!
